AI & Automation Lead M/F/X
DESCRIPTION OF THE COMPANY
Tissium is a mission-driven medical device company founded in 2013, headquartered in Paris, with a production facility in Roncq (near Lille) and an office in Boston. We are dedicated to creating a new era of body repair by leveraging our biopolymer platform to develop innovative solutions in surgery for a positive impact on patients' lives.
Tissium’s technology is based on research and intellectual property from the laboratories of Professor Robert Langer (MIT) and Professor Jeffrey M. Karp (Brigham and Women's Hospital), who co-founded the company with Christophe Bancel (CEO) and Maria Pereira (Deputy CEO & Chief Innovation Officer).
We are developing polymers for atraumatic tissue repair in various applications. Today, these polymers are used for sutureless nerve repair, hernia repair, and cardiovascular sealing.
Since our inception, we have raised a total of 170 million euros. Our latest fundraising round, which concluded in April 2023, resulted in 50 million euros in additional funding. This infusion of capital provides us with the necessary resources to finance the commercialization of our first products.
CONTEXT
TISSIUM is moving from a phase of GenAI experimentation to a more fundamental transformation: embedding automation and AI into how the company operates.
This is a founding position, backed by direct sponsorship from our executive team and a dedicated budget. You'll own both the strategy and the execution, identifying where digital creates value, building the solutions yourself, and progressively enabling teams across R&D, manufacturing, quality, regulatory, and commercial functions to operate with digital tools.
You won't be executing someone else's backlog. You'll have the autonomy to identify where AI and digital technologies can create the greatest value, the budget to bring in extra hands (freelance/contractor support) when a project calls for it, and direct access to leadership to challenge existing ways of working and turn opportunities into shipped solutions.
This role offers exposure to complex scientific and industrial challenges within a fast-growing MedTech company, placing you at the intersection of every function. As the organization scales, it offers a natural path toward leading a broader digital and AI function with increasing strategic influence.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Build & ship
Maintain and evolve existing automations and digital tools, ensure continuity, uptime, and adoption of solutions already in place.
Build automations, integrations, and internal tools that remove manual, fragile, or repetitive work. Develop connectors between data, documents, and systems.
Deliver MVPs (AI-powered tools, workflows, services) used daily by R&D, Quality, Regulatory, and Manufacturing teams, using GenAI when it helps, deterministic automation when it's better, and humans where accountability matters.
Drive adoption & change
Proactively engage stakeholders across R&D, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, and Corporate functions to surface high-impact use cases, build business cases, and prioritize by workload vs. value.
Drive company-wide GenAI adoption, train and coach teams to use AI tools, embed a technology-first reflex in daily work, and progressively build internal autonomy.
Work directly with scientists and operators in an environment full of unknowns and real constraints, including regulated (GxP) and manufacturing contexts.
Shape the vision
Define the roadmap for increased automation, optimization of digital resources, and advanced initiatives such as programmable polymer behavior simulation.
REPORTING
This position reports to the VP, Portfolio Strategy, with direct sponsorship from Tissium's executive team on priorities and budget.
YOU WILL LOVE THIS JOB IF
You're a hands-on builder, you ship working tools yourself. Comfortable coding in Python (or similar) to build, integrate, and automate; what you can independently ship matters more than deep software-engineering pedigree.
You have practical experience with LLMs / GenAI (RAG, fine-tuning, prompt engineering) and are comfortable with cloud environments (AWS or GCP).
You know how to work with non-technical stakeholders: explaining, training, and driving adoption comes naturally to you, and you have strong stakeholder management across R&D, Operations, and business teams.
You enjoy being the technical reference point in a non-technical environment, and you're energized by the ownership that comes with it — knowing you have budget and executive backing to bring in extra hands when a project needs it.
You have a clear, structured communication style, fluent English, and you enjoy ambiguity, ownership, and shipping real things.
We're looking for a builder who drives change: technical enough to ship real tools yourself, and just as strong at getting people to actually use them.
YOUR PROFILE
5–10 years of experience in hands-on engineering, AI, automation, or digital/operational roles.
Track record of building and deploying solutions that are actually used by teams — not just POCs.
Has owned the full lifecycle: identifying the opportunity, making the case, building, shipping, and driving adoption.
Experience working directly with senior stakeholders to shape priorities, not just receive them.
Preferred:
Experience in regulated industries (medtech, pharma, biotech) or familiarity with GxP/quality system constraints.
Experience training or coaching non-technical teams on AI/digital tools.
Familiarity with document-heavy workflows (regulatory submissions, quality records, clinical operations).
TISSIUM Behaviors & Mindset
Act with a sense of urgency: Align stakeholders around critical milestones and drive timely execution.
Embrace calculated risk-taking: Take thoughtful risks that create cross-functional impact.
Continuously learn and share: Demonstrate a strong learning mindset, share knowledge, and support team development.

Assume positive intent: Foster constructive and respectful collaboration across teams.
Drive active collaboration: Coordinate multiple stakeholders toward shared objectives.
Own outcomes: Take responsibility for project results and deliverables.
